In the first quarter of 2024, the sandbox gaming category has shown interesting trends in the United States on the unified platform. Compiled data from Sensor Tower provides insights into the performance of the top sandbox games in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.
Roblox, a leading platform by Roblox Corporation, exhibited strong numbers. Downloads fluctuated around the 500K mark, peaking at 645K at the beginning of January. The game's revenue maintained a steady pace in the $12M range, with a notable spike to $13.6M in the week of March 4th. Weekly active users showed a slight decline from 33M to 31M over the quarter.
Minecraft, developed by Mojang, also demonstrated consistent performance. The game's revenue was mostly around the $700K-$800K range, with downloads seeing a high of 119K in the second week of January and active users hovering between 7.7M and 8.9M throughout the quarter.
The Sims™ FreePlay showed a steady revenue pattern, with figures generally increasing from $333K to around $378K towards the end of February. Downloads saw a peak at 66K in January, while active users remained stable, just under 200K throughout the quarter.
IMVU: 3D Avatar Creator & Chat presented a revenue range between $210K and $289K. Downloads started at 65K in the first week of January and ended with 39K in the last week of March. Weekly active users experienced a dip, decreasing from 589K to 535K by the end of the quarter.
Lastly, Avakin Life: 3D Avatar Creator from Lockwood Publishing showed revenues that generally hovered around $110K, with a noticeable increase to $145K in the last week of February. Downloads were modest, starting at 21K in January and ending at 8.5K in March. Active users saw a slight decline from 52K to 32K over the period.
