In the second quarter of 2024, the entertainment app landscape in Latin America experienced significant shifts and trends. Leading the pack were Max: Stream HBO, TV, & Movies, Disney+, TikTok, Globoplay: Novelas, séries e +, and Star+. Below is a detailed analysis of their performance based on data from Sensor Tower.
Max: Stream HBO, TV, & Movies saw an impressive rise in weekly revenue, reaching approximately $2.1M in the week of June 17. Weekly downloads fluctuated, peaking at around 2.3M in the week of April 8. Active user numbers steadily increased, culminating at about 18.3M in the final week of June.
Disney+ experienced a notable spike in weekly revenue, hitting $2M in the last week of June. Downloads also surged towards the end of the quarter, with an impressive 1.17M in the same week. Active users followed a similar trend, peaking at 11.3M by the end of June.
TikTok maintained a strong presence with weekly revenue peaking at around $1.7M in mid-June. Downloads remained robust, consistently above 3M, hitting a high of 3.77M in the week of June 10. Active user numbers were remarkably stable, averaging around 165M throughout the quarter.
Globoplay: Novelas, séries e + showed steady weekly revenue, peaking at nearly $804K in early April. Downloads varied, with a high of 384K in mid-April. Active users saw a gradual increase, reaching about 6.2M by the end of June.
Star+ had a mixed quarter with weekly revenue starting strong at $676K in early April but dropping to $81K by the end of June. Downloads followed a similar pattern, peaking at 673K in the first week of April and dropping significantly to 26K by the end of June. Active users also saw a decline, from 11.2M in early April to 8.7M by the end of the quarter.
