In Europe during Q2 2024, the top 5 social networking apps - Threads, WhatsApp Messenger, Telegram Messenger, Facebook, and ten ten - close friends only - showed notable trends in downloads, revenue, and active users.
Threads saw a fluctuating download trend. Starting Q2 with 1.37M downloads in the first week of April, numbers dipped to 798K by mid-May before rebounding to over 1M in late June. Weekly active users also showed variability, peaking at nearly 19.4M in early June before ending the quarter at around 17.9M.
WhatsApp Messenger maintained a steady download rate, peaking at approximately 1.71M in mid-April. Revenue showed minor fluctuations, hovering around $130 to $140 per week. Weekly active users were remarkably stable, staying close to 447M throughout the quarter.
Telegram Messenger demonstrated strong growth in both downloads and revenue. Downloads increased significantly, reaching a peak of around 2.18M in mid-June. Revenue followed a similar upward trend, culminating at approximately $1.1M in the last week of June. Active users remained consistent, averaging around 156M weekly.
Facebook experienced steady downloads, ranging from approximately 1M to 1.2M weekly. Revenue saw minor fluctuations but stayed within the $250K to $310K range. Weekly active users remained stable, averaging around 263M throughout the quarter.
Lastly, ten ten - close friends only observed a significant rise in downloads, peaking at 670K in late May. Active users also increased steadily, reaching about 1.42M by the end of June.
