During the third quarter of 2024, several maps and navigation apps stood out on the Android platform in the United Arab Emirates. This analysis, derived from Sensor Tower data, delves into the performance trends of the top five apps in this category.
Careem – rides, food & more exhibited a consistent download pattern with a notable increase in mid-August. Weekly downloads began at around 10K in early July, dipped slightly, and then peaked at approximately 11.8K by the end of August. The app maintained a stable base of weekly active users, fluctuating between 37K and 40K throughout the quarter.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced a surge in downloads mid-July, reaching over 8.3K, followed by a relatively stable trend with minor fluctuations. The app's weekly active users started at nearly 40K and gradually decreased to about 37K by the end of September.
2GIS: Offline map & navigation saw a significant spike in downloads in mid-August, reaching 8.7K. This increase was mirrored in its active user base, which rose from around 21.8K in early July to a peak of 30K in mid-August, before settling at approximately 25.7K by the end of the quarter.
Yango Maps demonstrated a steady increase in downloads, peaking at 6.4K in early September. Active users followed a similar upward trend, starting at about 36.5K and reaching over 43.4K in early September before contracting to 30.8K by the end of September.
Finally, Offline Maps, GPS, Speedometer showed growth in both downloads and active users. Downloads began at 2.4K in July and climbed steadily to 4.4K by the end of September. The app's active user count increased from 3.6K to 5.8K over the same period.
