In the third quarter of 2024, the News and Magazines category on the Android platform in Kenya showcased varying performance metrics among the top five apps. The data from Sensor Tower provides insights into the weekly downloads and active user trends for these applications.
Citizen Digital from Royal Media Services maintained a robust presence with weekly downloads peaking at 27.5K in mid-July, though experiencing a dip to 7.2K by early September. The app's active users showed resilience, starting at 154.2K in early July and closing the quarter strongly at 156.3K.
Breaking News - Live Headlines by YING LIANG HK LIMITED witnessed a fluctuating download pattern, hitting a low of 6.1K in mid-August before surging to 21.4K at the end of September. Active users steadily increased throughout the quarter, reaching 67.5K by the end of September.
Opera News: breaking & local from Opera saw a consistent download rate, with figures hovering around 9K throughout the quarter. Active user numbers remained relatively stable, starting at 220K in early July and slightly decreasing to 199K by the end of September.
Mozzart Sport Kenya experienced a notable rise in downloads, beginning with 4.6K in early July and peaking at 10K in mid-September. Active users followed a similar trend, growing from 75K to around 87K by mid-September before stabilizing.
Lastly, Kenya Breaking News by Safe Apps MVPs showed a significant drop in downloads from 13.3K in early July to under 1K in mid-August, before slightly recovering to 3.7K by the end of September. Active user numbers demonstrated a recovery pattern, starting at 124.7K, dropping mid-quarter, and recovering to 115.4K by the end.
