During the third quarter of 2024, the top five music and podcast apps on the iOS platform in South Africa showcased diverse performance metrics. According to Sensor Tower, these apps varied in weekly downloads, revenue, and active user trends.
Spotify demonstrated a consistent revenue pattern, peaking at around $87 in late August. Downloads fluctuated, with a notable peak of approximately 18.3K in mid-September. The app maintained a strong user base, seeing an increase in active users from 223K at the start of July to about 246K by the end of September.
YouTube Music showed robust revenue figures, with a peak of nearly $19.2K at the end of September. Weekly downloads remained steady, reaching around 5.9K in the final week of the quarter. Active users started at 123K and slightly decreased to 127K by quarter's end.
Shazam: Find Music & Concerts focused on maintaining its download levels, with numbers hovering around 5.7K in mid-September. The active user base saw minor fluctuations, ending the quarter at approximately 266K.
Demus: Easy Music Streaming experienced a significant surge in downloads in early August, peaking at over 16K. Revenue showed a sporadic pattern, with notable peaks reaching $224 in mid-August. The app's active user base spiked to 15.8K during the same period, before stabilizing at around 5.5K by the end of September.
Radio South Africa - FM | AM had a steady revenue stream, peaking at $516 in early July. Downloads remained relatively stable, with a peak of 1.8K at the start of September.
