In the third quarter of 2024, the top entertainment apps in Kenya showcased varied performance trends across downloads, revenue, and active user engagement. Here's a closer look at the numbers:
MovieBox - Movies & TV Shows from TRANSSNET (HK) LIMITED demonstrated a notable increase in weekly downloads, beginning with 30.8K in early August and peaking at 151.6K by mid-August. Despite a slight decrease, downloads remained strong, ending September at 83.1K. Revenue for this app started at $11 in late August, eventually rising to $42 in early September before stabilizing around $37-$39 for the rest of the quarter. Weekly active users saw a substantial rise from 18.7K in early August to 222.6K by the end of September.
Netflix experienced consistent weekly revenue, fluctuating between $401 and $530, with a peak in late August. Downloads showed a declining trend from 29K in late July to 13.7K by the end of September. However, weekly active users remained relatively stable, starting at 305.6K in July and closing the quarter at 327K.
ShortMax - Watch Dramas & Show recorded a gradual decline in downloads from July's high of 45.1K to a more modest 10.8K by September's end. Revenue, however, remained steady, ranging from $1.2K to $2.1K throughout the quarter. Active users peaked at 98.3K in early July, followed by a gradual decrease, ending at 75.7K.
Showmax reported a steady increase in active users, starting at 97.3K in July and climbing to 144.5K by September's end. Downloads fluctuated, peaking at 25.6K in early August before settling at 9.9K by late September.
StarTimes ON-Live TV, Football showcased a notable revenue increase, reaching $22 in mid-August. Downloads decreased from 20.8K in early August to 6K by September's end. Active users saw a peak of 38.9K in mid-August, followed by a decrease to 18.3K by the end of the quarter.
