In the first quarter of 2025, the performance of the top communication apps on the Android platform in the United States showed varied trends. Here's a closer look at the top five apps, based on data from Sensor Tower.
WhatsApp Messenger saw a notable increase in weekly downloads, peaking at approximately 619K in mid-March. Its weekly active users also increased, reaching about 62M by the end of March. Revenue for the app was minimal, with a slight uptick to around $22 in late March.
Snapchat maintained a strong revenue stream, peaking at $495K in late February. Weekly downloads showed a steady rise, with figures reaching around 257K in early March. However, active users experienced a slight decline from 35M to 34M over the quarter.
Messenger experienced a gradual increase in revenue, culminating at about $12K by the end of March. Weekly downloads remained relatively stable, averaging around 200K throughout the quarter. Active users hovered around 55M, with minor fluctuations.
Telegram showed a consistent revenue trend, reaching $246K in late February. Downloads were steady, with numbers reaching approximately 218K in early March. Active user numbers remained stable, fluctuating slightly around 16M throughout the quarter.
TextNow: Call + Text Unlimited had a stable revenue pattern, with a peak of $200K in late February. While downloads varied slightly, they averaged around 150K. Active users saw a decline from 6.3M to 5M by the end of the quarter.
