social media strategies

When utilized properly, social media can be a powerful way to market your app. Many sites that do consistent social media marketing report that Twitter and Facebook are their top overall referral sources. They are consistently in the top 5 referral sources for our website.

Of course, the downside of social media marketing is that it can take a lot of time to maintain. That is the number one excuse that we hear for not starting a social media campaign.

That is a shame because it doesn't necessary have to take a lot of time, if you know how to create a process. In this post, we will give you five simple strategies that you can implement, regardless of how busy you are.

Batch Processes

If you are going to do this all yourself, then be sure to batch all of your tasks. The worst thing you can do is to stop your work and tweet something every time you have a good idea.

This breaks your train of thought, leading to lower productivity in whatever you were doing at the time. The key to getting consistent traffic from social media is to post consistently. This can be harder than it sounds.

Just remember to batch your content creation, content curation, answering followers and anything else you do related to your social media marketing. This will allow you to do everything faster and fit it into even the busiest schedule.

Use A Scheduling Tool

There are a few great tools out there, but we like Hootsuite. It allows you to sit down once a week and schedule all of your posts for the week.

You can schedule posts for Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn and more. The biggest benefit beyond being able to post to your pages is the ability to schedule posts in Facebook and LinkedIn groups. This can be a key traffic source that is easily overlooked.

One key feature in Hootsuite that can speed up the scheduling process is Autoschedule. It allows you to set the frequency and time periods that you want your posts to appear.

Hootsuite will automatically populate your new content in the next available slot. It will also optimize the posting times within your scheduling window, according which times are getting the most clicks.

As you can see, scheduling your posts with a tool like Hootsuite will ensure that you continuously provide content to potential users, without taking up too much of your time.

Responsible Recycling Benefits Your Audience

You will be spending time crafting your own content or finding quality content from other sites to share with your audience. Don't let that content fade into oblivion.

Recycle the best evergreen content so people who missed it the first time still will still have an opportunity to benefit from it. This can systematically increase your following, engagement and traffic.

The reality is that most of your audience won't see a good portion of your posts. According to Pew Research, only 46% of Twitter users check their feed daily. In addition, Facebook organic page reach continues to decline.

One way to recycle your posts is to setup a spreadsheet with the content you want to recycle. Then create a schedule to check the spreadsheet and post your evergreen content. Be sure to note when you last posted each piece of content so you don't repost it too frequently.

A much easier way to do this is to use a tool like Edgar. It essentially automates the process outlined above.

You start by creating a library of your best content. Then you create a schedule of when you want that content to go out on each of your social media accounts. Edgar automatically manages your content so you don't post the same piece of content too frequently.

Please note: We are not promoting spamming. You should have enough content in your queue so that the same piece of content does not come up more than once a month. If possible, two months or more would be ideal. We recycle our content and we have received a total of ZERO complaints. In fact, there is often renewed interest in our "classic" posts.

Follow Quality Content Sources

Spend a few minutes every month looking for new content sources to curate content from. If you don't have time to create content yourself, then curating excellent content from related resources is a great way to build a following.

Use an RSS reader like Feedly to track the sites you follow. It makes it really easy to see which feed items are new and which ones have been read. Just click on the check mark to mark new items as read.

Outsource The Process

Finally, if the strategies above are still require too much of your time, then you can outsource everything. Before you hire anyone, the key is to document the process so almost any outsourced worker can follow it and get the results you are looking for.

Putting this documentation together will take a little time, but it can pay off with more traffic to your app's website. If you are sharing the right content, it can also lead to more downloads of your app.

When you couple App Store Optimization with social media marketing, you can create a powerful, low cost marketing engine for your app. The organic downloads that you get from these marketing strategies can be well worth the effort that it takes to set them up.

So take some time to set up a schedule to work on your social media marketing, right now. A little time invested now can really pay off later.
