Key Takeaways:
The DAU to MAU ratio, otherwise known as the engagement ratio, is calculated by dividing the number of an app’s DAUs by its MAUs. This metric provides a window into the proportion of MAUs that engage with the app on a daily basis, which can offer a unique understanding into consumer behavior, loyalty and stickiness
Sensor Tower data shows that the AccuWeather app boasts the highest DAU/MAU ratio out of the weather app cohort in the US at 44% in Jun’24, followed by the Weather Channel app (40%), WeatherBug (38%), MyRadar Weather Radar (32%) and Weather Home (32%)
On a YoY basis, the top weather apps by DAU/MAU ratios (excluding Weather Home) saw a slip in user stickiness. AccuWeather (-2pps), The Weather Channel app (-2pps), Weather Bug (-2pps) and MyRadar Weather Radar (-2pps) all saw DAU/MAU ratios in Jun’24 decline slightly YoY, which may signal that these apps are facing some difficulty in continually engaging users throughout a monthly period
Conversely, Weather Home, Weather Underground, Weather & Radar Storm Alerts, and Clime saw DAU/MAU ratios remain relatively flat on a YoY basis in the US
The broader lack of record-breaking heat waves in Jun’24 may have contributed to declining or flattening DAU/MAU ratios for top weather apps, as consumers likely didn’t engage with these apps as much as they did in Jun’23, when heat waves were blazing past record temperatures
