We just rolled out three new features that will make it much easier for you to see how well your app (or a competing app) is doing on the App Store. This post will show you how our new Visibility Score, Country Summary of Category Rankings and upgraded Daily Reports work, and how you can take advantage of them right now.
We have been working hard on this one for some time and it is now available on our Dashboard and our App Profile Pages. Visibility Score is our proprietary measurement of how visible an app is on the App Store.
It is calculated by taking multiple factors into account, such as search rankings, chart rankings and much more. When you look at an app's Visibility Score, it very easy to see exactly how one app compares to its competition.
Unlike our Difficulty and Traffic Scores, there is no maximum Visibility Score. It is similar to our Estimated App Worth, in that it can continue to increase, the more an app's visibility increases. Note: Since this post was first published, we have deprecated the Estimate App Worth feature in favor of our Store Intelligence product.
We cannot provide a simple 0-10 rating scale for two primary reasons.
First, there are many different factors that we look at when determining this score. There are keyword rankings, category rankings, individual country rankings, etc. A simple 0-10 rating, or a similar fixed scale, would not give us sufficient granularity or flexibility for expansion.
That brings us to our second reason, visibility gaps. There is actually a huge difference in overall visibility between Facebook and even a mega game like Clash of Clans. You can see it for yourself by checking out our Leaderboard.
Therefore, Visibility Score needs to be able to continually expand to accommodate apps like Facebook, while also accurately measuring the visibility small indie apps. That is why it is important to remember that it is a relative score.
When you compare your app to other apps, measure your Visibility Score in relation to your competition and do not compare it to apps like Facebook. What is considered a great Visibility Score will vary greatly by industry and country.
Our Category Rankings module has been updated to include a Country Summary tab. This has also been added to our App Profile Pages. There are two parts to this tab, the overall ranking summary section and the individual countries section.
The first section is the overall ranking summary section. It shows you the number of countries that your app ranks in, for each listed ranking range in each category.
The second section lists each individual country and shows you where your app ranks in each country for each of your categories. This makes it very easy to see where your localization is working best and where it may need to be improved. If it wasn't for this summary, you would have to examine every country on the list individually.
We have completely redesigned our Daily App Store Report emails so they are easier to read and have more of the data you need to monitor your app's rankings. The beginning of the report features a summary of your app's downloads, revenue, reviews and day-over-day changes.
To get more information about each country that your app is in, our country profile section gives you more detailed daily performance data. Staying on top of your rankings is the key to improving them.
The Daily App Store Reports are already going out and the Google Play Reports will be updated soon. To make sure that you are getting the latest updates on your app, check the Email Preferences section in your account settings. Also be sure to connect your iTunes credentials so we can include your app's latest stats in your email reports.
Along with our new Breakdown of Reviews, these three features round out our most recent platform updates. Give them a try and let us know what you think.
We would love to hear any questions or comments that you have about these new features. Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
