Mixi's Monster Strike has surpassed worldwide gross revenue of $7.2 billion, according to Sensor Tower's Store Intelligence estimates. This figure solidifies the Japanese title's spot as the highest earning mobile app of all time on the App Store and Google Play, and puts it out in front of longtime leader Puzzles & Dragons from GungHo Online Entertainment, which has grossed an estimated $7 billion since its release in 2012.
For Western readers to understand the scale of Monster Strike's continued success, a better reference point might be the popular AR title, Pokémon GO, which has grossed just over $2 billion to date. As we recently reported, Pokémon GO grossed almost $85 million in September; this figure was large enough to rank No. 4 out all apps for the month. In the same month, Monster Strike grossed approximately $112 million, or over 30 percent more than Pokémon GO. Monster Strike's September revenue ranked No. 2 out of all apps for the month.
Despite being more than five years old, Monster Strike is still experiencing revenue growth. In Q3, Monster Strike revenue was up 6 percent year-over-year. In addition to this income, Monster Strike has continued accumulating downloads and growing its primarily Japanese fanbase. Thanks to gamers there, Mixi's top title has been downloaded more than 45 million times to date.
