The fourth excerpt from our State of Shopping Apps Report for 2019 focuses on the top Clothes and Fashion apps in the United States by downloads across the App Store and Google Play. App download estimates in this report are from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.
Poshmark was the most downloaded Clothes and Fashion app in the U.S. for Q1 to Q3 2019, followed by SHEIN, Fashion Nova, ROMWE, and ZAFUL.
Poshmark surpassed four million U.S installs for just the second time in Q3 2019. It has remained well ahead of its closest competitors since 2016. SHEIN’s U.S. downloads increased 44 percent year-over-year in Q3 2019 to surpass two million for the first time. Competitors including ROMWE and ZAFUL saw only modest growth of approximately 4 percent Y/Y.
Fashion Nova was the top brick and mortar app each quarter since Q3 2018. The app is primarily an online retailer but does have some brick and mortar locations in Southern California. The rest of the top five apps have displayed strong growth since 2016. However, all of the top five apps saw U.S. downloads decline Y/Y in 3Q19.
Following two years of brick and mortar apps taking market share from online apps, brick and mortar’s share decreased slightly in the first three quarters of 2019. Downloads for brick and mortar Shopping apps have continued to increase, but at a slower rate than in past years. Online apps such as Poshmark, SHEIN, ROMWE, and Depop have displayed strong growth to start 2019. At the same time, Clothes and Fashion apps’ share of U.S. Shopping downloads has more than doubled since 2016.
