The State of Uber and Lyft in Q1 2019

See an analysis of the top rideshare apps, Uber and Lyft, in Q1 2019 by downloads and market share, according to Sensor Tower data.

Following Uber and Lyft’s recent IPOs, we analyzed the rideshare giants’ performance on the App Store and Google Play during Q1 2019 using Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.

Uber vs. Lyft - U.S. Downloads

Lyft has significantly grown its market share in the United States over the past few years. Lyft accounted 43 percent of U.S. downloads between the two firms in March 2019, compared to only 22 percent four years prior. Uber had 6.4 million U.S. installs in Q1 2019, compared to 4.7 million for Lyft. This was a slight decrease for each app from Q1 2018 when Uber had 6.5 million installs and Lyft had five million.

Uber and Lyft Downloads by Country in Q1 2019

The U.S. is still Lyft’s largest market, accounting for 89 percent of the app’s downloads coming in Q1 2019. Uber had a much larger global presence with more than 30 million downloads outside of the U.S. last quarter. Uber’s top country for downloads was Brazil with 22 percent, followed by the U.S. with 16 percent, India with 13 percent, and Mexico with 8 percent.

We report unique installs only. Android estimates do not include third-party stores. Figures represent aggregate installs of all app versions, ex: Facebook and Facebook Lite.
