Top 10 Worldwide Mobile Games By Revenue and Downloads in August 2025

Last War: Survival Game was the top-grossing mobile game globally in August 2025, followed by Honor of Kings at #2 and Whiteout Survival at #3. MONOPOLY GO! and Royal Match rounded out the top five.

According to Sensor Tower’s App Performance Insights, Last War: Survival Game  by FUNFLY retained its position as the highest-grossing mobile game worldwide. Close behind was Honor of Kings at No. 2, which moved up two positions, and Whiteout Survival at No. 3, which held steady. Rounding out the top five were MONOPOLY GO! and Royal Match.

Last War: Survival Game drove strong August revenue through end-of-season events, rotating Hot Deals, and competitive modes like Frontline Breakthrough and Alliance Duels. Timely promotions and social campaigns spurred spending on bundles and passes, sustaining the title’s revenue momentum.

Honor of Kings ranked No. 2 globally by revenue in August, powered by multiple high-profile collaborations and premium skin releases. The highlight was the crossover with Lord of the Mysteries, a popular Chinese fantasy novel, which launched mid-month and introduced new themed hero skins that drove strong engagement during its two-week run. Later in the month, revenue was further boosted by the Fox Spirit Matchmaker collaboration, based on a well-known Chinese romance fantasy anime rooted in folklore about humans and fox spirits. The event added limited-time hero skins available through direct purchase.

In August 2025, global consumer spending on mobile games via the App Store and Google Play reached approximately $7.15 billion, representing a 1% month-over-month growth. The United States remained the leading market with $2.3 billion in revenue (32% share), followed by China (iOS only) at 15.3% and Japan at 12.8%.

Pokémon GO led the revenue growth in August, currently also at #8 by absolute revenue, driven by a series of large in-game events. The month’s highlight was the GO Fest 2025 Global Finale event in late August, which introduced new powerful Pokémon and exclusive timed battles available through a premium event pass. Mid-month tie-ins with the  Pokémon World Championships added exclusive cosmetics and rewards, while a month-long ticketed bonus program kept players engaged and spending throughout the month.

Tencent had four titles in August’s top revenue growth chart, including Honor of Kings, which ranked 10th by growth and 2nd by absolute revenue, each lifted by major updates and events. Game for Peace surged with its official Nezha collaboration on August 8, bringing themed characters and a limited-time battle mode inspired by the film Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child. Teamfight Tactics  gained momentum from its new season on August 4, which introduced fresh synergies and mechanics, and its fourth-anniversary celebration on August 30 featuring free loot boxes, special match bonuses, themed cosmetics, and extra login rewards. League of Legends: Wild Rift from Riot Games, a Tencent subsidiary, recorded a strong revenue lift with the Crystal Rose Gala on August 9, offering a mix of new and returning skins, and the Bard lands in the Rift  update on August 22, which added a new champion and themed content. Across these titles, Tencent’s coordinated premium updates helped sustain engagement and drive spending throughout the month.

Top 10 Worldwide Mobile Game Download Rankings for August 2025

ROBLOX reclaimed its position as the most downloaded mobile game globally in August 2025. Free Fire moved up to #2, followed by Block Blast!, Subway Surfers, and Pizza Ready!, completing the top five.

ROBLOX dominated global downloads in August 2025, holding the No. 1 spot worldwide for the second consecutive month. Its momentum was fueled by a string of high-profile premieres and updates, including the launch of Dandy’s World on August 1, the Tamagotchi Party: Paradise Update on August 16, and Super League Soccer on August 15. Engagement was further amplified by cultural crossovers like Lady Gaga x Dress to Impress and BABYMETAL MONSTERS, along with sports tie-ins such as the US Open Tennis event at the end of the month. These diverse experiences, spanning music, fashion, anime, and sports, broadened Roblox’s appeal and sustained its dominance across top markets including the United States, Brazil, and Indonesia.

Free Fire ranked No. 2 globally by downloads in August, moving up one spot from the previous month. Its momentum in August was boosted by the ongoing Free Fire x Naruto Shippuden event, launched July 30, which brought themed content and challenges around the popular anime series. The title performs well in high-volume markets like India, Brazil, and Indonesia.

In August 2025, global mobile game downloads remained stable at around 4.31 billion, reflecting a consistent level month-over-month. India dominated with 702 million downloads (16.3%), followed by the U.S. (6.6%) and Indonesia (6.1%).

Hypercasual title Steal n Catch the Brainrot topped downloads growth in August, reaching #36 globally just weeks after its July 2025 debut. Published by BMH VN Game, the sandbox-themed experience found traction in markets like Indonesia, Mexico, and Turkey, with quirky “brainrot” characters, steal-and-defend mechanics, and a low-poly art style that resonated with hypercasual players and fueled its viral rise.

Kpop Piano Beats - Music Game saw a major surge in August to claim the No. 2 spot in global downloads growth. Its rise reflects the pull of K-pop fandom, as players flocked to its tap-to-the-beat gameplay set to popular tracks. The mix of viral music appeal and simple, accessible mechanics helped the title break into the global top charts within weeks.

Valorant Mobile launched exclusively in China in August 2025, debuting at No. 5 in worldwide downloads growth. The game adapts Riot’s tactical shooter for mobile with streamlined controls, touch-screen aiming, and shorter match pacing while preserving core hero abilities and tactical depth. Its strong debut highlights China’s demand for innovative mobile FPS experiences and sets the stage for future global expansion.

August’s mobile download trends reflected a mix of established leaders and breakout hits. ROBLOX extended its dominance with fresh crossovers, while Free Fire held its evergreen appeal in key markets. Viral newcomers like Steal n Catch the Brainrot and Kpop Piano Beats climbed rapidly through cultural tie-ins, and the launch of Valorant Mobile in China showed the strong pull of major PC and console franchises on mobile.
