The country with the largest number of new app installs in Q2 2019 was India with approximately 5.4 billion first-time downloads, reaching a new milestone in the quarter, up 13 percent from 4.8 billion in Q1 2019. The full ranking of the top 10 countries with the most new app installs for Q2 is below. App download estimates are from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.
The second-ranked country in terms of worldwide app downloads in Q2 2019 was the United States with three billion new installs. The next highest performing country was Brazil, followed by Indonesia and Russia.
Indonesia, the No. 5 market for new installs in Q1, passed Russia to take the No. 4 spot last quarter. Thailand replaced South Korea among the top 10 with more than 500 million first-time downloads.
As Google Play is not available in China, we have excluded the country from the above chart.
The country with the most new installs on the App Store worldwide for Q2 2019 was China with more than two billion installs, followed by the U.S., Japan, Great Britain, and Russia.
The gap between China and the U.S. narrowed in Q2 2019. China had 290 million more App Store downloads than the U.S. in Q2 2019 compared to 690 million more downloads in Q2 2018. The No. 3-5 countries stayed the same as last quarter, with Japan, Great Britain, and Russia, respectively. Japan and Great Britain each had approximately 7 percent year-over-year growth.
India had the most new installs on Google Play worldwide during Q2 2019, followed by Brazil, Indonesia, the U.S., and Russia.
India bounced back after a quarter-over-quarter decline in downloads in Q1. India’s new installs reached 5.26 billion in Q2 2019, an increase of 11.6 percent Q/Q from 4.72 billion in Q1 2019 and up nearly 20 percent Y/Y. Indonesia passed the U.S. for the first time in Q2 2019 with 22 percent Y/Y growth. U.S. downloads on Google Play dropped below 1.3 billion for the first time since Q3 2014.
