Top Mobile Games by Worldwide Revenue for September 2019

The top mobile game by worldwide revenue for September 2019 was PUBG Mobile from Tencent with more than $158.5 million in user spending, a 7.6x increase from September 2018. Approximately 55 percent of PUBG’s revenue was from China, followed by 15 percent from the United States and 5 percent from Japan. Pokémon GO from Niantic was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for September 2019 with close to $116 million in gross revenue, which represented 33 percent year-over-year growth from September 2018. About 41 percent of Pokémon GO’s revenue was from the U.S., followed by 29 percent from Japan. The next top grossing app was Honor of Kings from Tencent, followed by Fate/Grand Order from Sony and Candy Crush Saga from King.

Elsewhere on the overall worldwide revenue chart, Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Walk has got off to a flying start since its Japan-exclusive release on September 11th, ranking in ninth place. The location-based game generated $59.2 million in revenue during the month from nearly 1.5 million downloads. That makes it the second highest-revenue generating location-based game in September behind Pokémon GO, and just shy of the second highest-grossing ever.

Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle also had a strong month to take 10th place in the overall worldwide revenue rankings with $59 million in revenue. An estimated 57 percent of player spending came from Japan, while the U.S. followed in second with 26 percent.
