The top mobile game by worldwide revenue for April 2020 was PUBG Mobile from Tencent with more than $225.2 million in player spending, which represented 241.4 percent growth from April 2019. Approximately 58.8 percent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue was from China, followed by 9.6 percent from the United States and 4.9 percent from Saudi Arabia. Honor of Kings was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for April 2020 with more than $156 million in gross revenue. About 94.4 percent of Honor of King’s revenue was from China, followed by 2.3 percent from Thailand. The next top grossing game was Roblox, followed by Monster Strike from Mixi and Coin Master from Moon Active.

The COVID-19 pandemic and global lockdowns have had little impact on the makeup of the top 10 grossing mobile games, which remained the same as March, though a few have shuffled positions. Roblox made the biggest moves, ranking No. 3 for the month after generating close to $96 million in revenue, up 37.4 percent from March, which represents a new record for the game.

Fortnite from Epic Games surged into the App Store’s top 10 grossers in April, accumulating $44 million from player spending, up 89 percent from March. The increase in user spending marked its best month on the App Store since May 2019. Fortnite’s return to the top rankings is likely due to a mix of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the in-game Astronomical concert featuring Travis Scott.
